Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress

If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

What the hell is a mastectomy? I've heard of hysterectomies, but never this.

Aw, man I just looked mastectomy up. That sucks. If I were a woman (only in my dreams) I would hate to have my breasts surgically removed. That's like losing yr penis. You don't even feel like a woman anymore. That must be incredibly psychologically damaging.

they chop your tits off. you can get fake tits afterwards. my friend's mom had it done.

i'm not a women either.. and i'm sure it's a very shitty experience, but i think it's a little different then getting yr penis chopped off, as the penis is the male reproductive organ, and also means of excreting urine. whereas a breast doesn't serve the purpose of reproducing. but yeah..that would suck. plus, like cantankerous said, you can get new boobs...fake albeit, but at the options there.. once yr dick is gone, i think its pretty much gone...?

my mom has ahd a hysterectomy. my aunt has had the mastectomy.

it is not just a bag of flesh wit fat cells in it. there are lymph nodes, nerves, large blood vessell,s not to mention mammary glands. It is a very very traumatic surgery to have to do, and it IS compareable to losing your pecker, or your scrotum.
