Yes.
The Electric Light Orchestra. I'll begin with Exhibit A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTNUZdM7HtM&feature=PlayList&p=36360896935 F41D2&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=1

Out of the Blue was like the first or second album I bought (the other was Queen's News of the World). It is a really great piece of pop rock. Probably where I began to love cello.
A New World Record is pretty darn good as well. And Jeff Lynne as a producer? Traveling Wilbury's was great.

The first album is a good one to pull out of the dollar bin because it has Roy Wood!

Dead-Air played a song from them a few months back on his, "What's That Called" radio show. Granted, there was some hottie intern in the studio with him and he may have been showing off a little, but hearing ELO mixed with everything else he played that day makes that show one of the most played on my MP3 player......think I might give it another listen at work later tonight.
'Face The Music' and 'Secret Messages' are two of my Electric Light favorites! "The music is reversible, but time is not. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back." |

Is ELO a guilty pleasure for you guys ? They have many good songs: Mr. Blue Sky, Turn to Stone, Livin' Thing, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Four Little Diamonds, ... It's been a while since I haven't heard them though, but I remember that Out of the Blue was a good album. I would take them over Queen anyday !

Not a guilty pleasure at all. I love pop rock. I play pop rock. I love all kinds of music. Guilty pleasures are only for people who try to look cool and use music to make them feel cool. Music keeps me sane. Different kinds at different times in my life.

When I was 15 in 1977, Telephone Line was becoming a hit, and I fucking adored that song. I had to ask a music-fan friend who it was, and when I later realized that Livin Thing, Strange Magic, and Evil Woman were by the same group, I went nuts.
These were songs that I loved, but as a young teen I never really paid attention to who the groups were. When Turn To Stone was released, I was ready and waiting for the new ELO. To say that Turn To Stone didn't let me down is a gross understatement. I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing when that song first came on. It fuckin blows me away to this day. What a melody. What lyrics. What layering of vocals and strings as the song progresses. It's fucking ingenious. Never mind that later stuff though, here is Exhibit B: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mmx68VmTEo Aside: Jeff Lynne is a fucking great singer. This is often overlooked.

He is.
Bev Bevan on the other hand is, to my ears, almost too precise. Could be replaced by a drum machine.
