Maybe I mis-worded my post a bit; deep listening might not be the best way to put it... I would say however that Radiohead have become more than just a rock band. They have become somewhat more important than that, and that requires their music to be held up to a different light than most other bands. I can't really explain much, because I'm in school right now, and doing my work while typing at the same time... But I hope that makes some modicum of sense...

i don't doubt that, but you're certainly in the minority. especially since pitchfork methodically gives their albums 9.somethings or higher just for the sake of blind faith. when that happens, the indie kids take it as gospel and declare radiohead "the best fucking band on the earth, dude!" and anyone who doesn't like them obviously doesn't get it or like good music, duh.

Yes, but I can see why most people do like them. For some reason they just don't do anything for me. I reckon they'll sound really dated in 10 years.

In my opinion there are at least as many poseurs among SY fans than Radiohead fans, if not more.

that's to be expected from a band that has been around for over 25 years and has influenced some of the most important bands of the past 15 years.

To be honest, I don't see what the big deal is. Radiohead are not that big of a deal. They write good, somewhat clever songs, that can get rather emotive. That's it. They're not the saviours of rock. But unfortunately, that's what Pitchfork et al has painted them out to be and it has caused a lot of detractors and critics to wag and point their fingers. Which saddens me. On a side note, SY were not exactly the critic's darling back in the day were they? Thurston Moore got into this argument with Robert Christgau over Kill Yr Idols. Apparently now, he's their biggest fan. Which is ultra ironic.
