There are so many "BBC SESSION" recordings out there that I can't keep track. I know the are not streamlined, so there's no "bbc sound" or anything consistent in the production, but I still will check out a "BBC Sessions" from just about any band that i'm even remotely interested in.

So, what are your top BBC sessions? What are some that you have in your collection?

Joy Division and Dinosaur Jr are what I've been playing lately, but I'm sure there are tons out there that I'm not aware of. Please make some suggestion!!

Search "John Peel" and be amazed by how much this has already been talked about.

This occurred to me when I was making the thread, and I even envisioned being snarked at for not missing something, I'm sorry-- in truth I just don't know that much about John Peel honestly, despite having a number of "Peel Sessions". I know he was a british dj who, it seemed, had recorded pretty much every artist I like, but that's about it.

Are all BBC sessions Peel sessions? Not by title. But if they're all pretty much the same thing then... well. I feel quite stupid, I assure you.

Wait, the Beatles BBC session was recorded long before John Peel started, surely. And the Who and Zeppelin recordings?

So... that's something, right?

I have no idea, because I don't have that many. In my collection, I think I only have JAMC, Joy Divisoin, and th' Faith Healers. I wish I had more. I like the ones I have all very much.

I'd like to get Dino Jr, Pj Harvey, and Birthday Party.

Yeah there are tons that I'm interested in and I'm always hearing of new ones that I didn't know existed.

Check out "No Bones" from Dino's sessions album.

John Peel started already in the sixties and made sessions for example with Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and King Crimson. But there are also other BBC-sessions as just Peel-sessions, for example Bauhaus swing the heartache album includes all BBC-sessions (at least I think so).

I just noticed that Sy has also made four peel sessions. And there is no official release from them (I found 4 tunna brix and peel sessions 2 from the bootlegs). I have read here that many appreciate that tunna brix (the Fall-covers) but what about the rest? I donīt remember mentions about those others. Maybe theyīre not very great because band havenīt made official release from them?

I really enjoy those Rodan Peel Sessions tracks. Great tunes.

The only BBC Sessions I actually own are the Led Zep and Dinosaur Jr. ones.

Slightly humoring story about the LZ one. I went into a failing music store nearby at the age of 11 or something like that with five dollars or so, only enough to buy one used album. My choices eventually boiled down to the LZ BBC Sessions or a copy of Sister (it was missing the cover I think). I didn't know a thing about SY at the time, but I knew my brother really enjoyed them. But I ended up going with Led Zep instead. He ripped on me alot after that. All in all I probably made the right call, because I got into SY a year later anyway, and I probably would've never bought those BBC Sessions if I hadn't bought it then, they're good though.

Agreed on the Rodan comment. Highly underrated band.

The Zeppelin sessions are probably my favorite thing that band ever recorded.

I have just listened the first peel sessions and itīs just great! So noisy and dirty! Cooper-cover is also very great and expressway is also little different as EVOL-version. The second is not as great in my opinion (it is coming right now) but I really consider to buy 4 tunna brix in next record happening. I hope they will release all peel sessions sometime, I think itīs very hard to find that Blast first-compilation where are two first peel sessions-songs. And I really want all those four!

E, i believe you're thinking of those "official" BBC releases that were coming out in droves in the 90s. They were kind of a "big deal" and usually came in deluxe 2CD editions. The peel sessions you have on your computer are technically boots here in the US for the most part. However john peel was a fixture in BBC radio.

Basically, all your peel sessions are BBC, bit not all those "BBC" reissues are by peel, though some do include his recordings.

My favorites from the "BBC" are Bowie at the Beeb, JD, and Pixies. All official releases. My favorite actual peel sessions are a different matter. But damn, there is a lot of both.
