Yeah, I saw that on HC, how is the pulsar?

I'm trying to get rid of my Danos (Tuna Melt and Chili Dog) because I'll probably upgrade to that or the catalinbread semaphore eventually. Does the pulsar feel like it has a volume drop? That is the thing I really hate about the tuna melt.

I've really been trying to get my hands on a French toast. Nobody wants to trade theirs for a tuna melt though!

The LBM, Polyphase, Clone Theory, Pulsar, 2880, and sort of the HOG are all really sexy. I'm losing interest in the HOG though.

Yeah, the Pulsar feels like it has a slight volume drop, depending on your settings - the more the effect is blended, the more drop. I haven't used it to it's fullest yet though, and it's not an extreme drop. I really like it so far.

The LPB-1 is nice. Pretty decent overdrive on my amp, but I guess I prefer my Turbo Rat for distorted sounds. I may use it at the end of my pedals for a buffer instead.
I was bummed they didn't have the Clone Theory yet, that's my next purchase.

The french toast is highly recommended. It took me a while to get to know it, but now I know what to expect. Not bad at all for a chaotic cheap pedal!

The Hog is cool, but I find myself really wanting a Pog instead.

True, but they are still a lot of fun.

Notice they all are center negative 9 volt. So they take boss adaptors!

see? that's exactly what i meant...i love gear, everything, amps, pedals, everything; but i hate it when people go to great lenghts to point out "cool" gear and "uncool" gear; e-h stuff is beautiful and some of their pedals are great sounding, but it's not like they are superior as a whole to other brands. of course, kurt cobain didn't use other brands and mudhoney named half their debut ep after a pedal by them, so that's why they are better.

that's why i posted what i posted.

I've been thinking about also naming a whole recording after an EH pedal- I'd call the EP or LP "Frequency Analyzer." It would be an awesome name.

Electro-Harmonix is truly superior to other brands though. More affordable than Zvex, Catalinbread, MOOG, Loveton, and other expensive shit and more organic and rich sounding than cheaper stuff like Boss, Digitech, Line 6, MXR, Danelectro, and your mom.

It's not a matter of being a 'cool' product or not to me, if a brand makes interesting shit, I'll check it out - Boss ain't 'cool' per se, but there's a few more things I'd like from them.

Case in point: not many other brand's pedals have self-modulation like some of the EXH pedals (Memory Man, Poly Chorus, Tube Zipper etc.). This opens way more possiblities (chaotic noises, soundscapes, synth-like sounds) beyond what they were primarily designed for, which is quite exciting.

Electro-Harmonix is an extremely creative company, and that's why I love 'em.

MXR has the Blue Box, so they get points for that. Boss has the Slow Gear (tried something similar on a friend's multieffects box, now I want the real thing-just say no to multieffects, they're jacks of all trades but masters of none), so they get points for that one too. Digitech and Line 6 are for people lazy/poor/young to try and get the real things. Yr mom, on the other hand....

Hey Julian, did you post a review for the Frequency Analyzer on Harmony-Central? Thinking about getting one...

I might have. I probably did. I could probably give a better review now. I'd say get it, it is a great pedal. But you have to be serious about it when using it. Otherwise it is just a noise-box. It isn't hard once you get your favorite settings (mainly notes you tune it to) back up, because you just match the oscillator pitch to a note on your guitar, and the fine tune can help if you have the oscillator tuned high, the fine tune doesn't do much if you have it tuned low though.

MXR does have the Blue-box, and Boss has cool pedals from time to time- but Boss usually discontinues them. EHX just has a huge line of great pedals. There are only a few that people would call stinkers.

I think of it this way, if I had to have a pedal board with only one brand on it, it would be Electro-Harmonix.

Word. I don't like pedals. I do, for some people. But there are far to many pedal-fetishists worrying more about getting the perfect sound than they are worrying about playing interestingly. No matter how many effects you have, if you're not an interesting player, you're not an interesting player.

No offense to anyone here, of course.

I agree whole heartedly Glice. The more pedals you have on the more it limits your sonic possibilities. Especially chorus, phase, and flange. Without an expression pedal, an envelope follower (the polyphase), a momentary thing, or a tap tempo, they can get annoying really quickly. I actually don't have any modulation except a tremolo which I'm probably going to ditch on my board right now. (I'm trying to trade it for a French Toast octave distortion.)

I generally like subtle pedal settings to just color my tone and let my playing do most of the work (although I have a few songs that are exceptions to that, mainly the ones where I mix the frequency analyzer high in.)

I understand some people 'hide' their lack of skills behind effects, which is fine, but personally most of my songs are written without effects and I add things later to 'color' a gtr part or section of a song. It's fun! WWEEEE!
