It's probably not a good place to start, but I'm very fond of Poptari.

look at my post above.

actually, any of the official albums is a good place to start, just don't get any of the boretronix, super roots or rebore albums first, because they don't represent their general sound.

actually, i don't; i can't rate vision creation newsun higher than onanie bomb or vice versa; i mean, what moment is better? the part where eye starts belching on onanie bomb or the seismic change around minute 8 of "super going"? can "acid police" be really rated in the same way you could rate "house of sun"?

whatever album you can get is cool, i would probably advice you to get one of their earlier works first (chocolate synthetizer, pop tatari, soul dischrage, wow2, onanie bomb meets the sex pistols) before going to their later part of their career (super ae, vcn, seadrum/house of sun), as the earlier, the more difficult they are and the faster you get used to their style, the better you will appreciate their later stuff.

I'm asking because of my personal taste. I have heard older boredoms albums and usually 1 or 2 songs I really really love, and the rest I really do not like. Specifically the songs with the heavy guitar distortion and screaming. I'm not saying it's good or bad, I just don't like it and I want to hear more stuff that sounds like Vision Creation Newsun. I think I am more of a fan of recent boredoms

I've heard some older stuff I like. I really don't like Chocolate Synthisizer but I love the song Synthisizer Guide Book on Fire. That's the kind of older Boredoms I like. That and whatever they are playing in this video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=1zY8Q761F8c

The intro sounds like a simplified Super You and the rest sounds like the latter end of Super Going after the seismic change that Everyneurotic mentioned. Just buy Super Ae, you'll love it.

I plan on picking up some boredoms next week. My local record store has a nice selection and I've walked by it many times without picking any thing up by them.

It really depends what you are looking for Onanie Bomb Meets the Sex Pistols is hilariously irreverant post-punk, while Pop Tatari is more the "noise rock" they are famous for, and Super Are is experimental music bordering on ambient electronic at times. I love all three though I listen to the latter the most often. In many ways Onanie Bomb is my favorite though, for being so over the top.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.. I used to run a Boredoms review site.. http://www.geocities.com/boreviewx .. no one cared about it, so I stopped doing it, but it has .. well .. I wasn't the best writer in the world back then (and i've barely improved since then), but I think I posted pretty thoughtful and detailed, if not well-worded, reviews. So, yeah, check it out, it covers most of their stuff. My favorite Boredoms is BY FAR Vision Creation Newsun, with Super AE, Chocolate, Pop, and Wow2 not ever close to being far behind. Though, as always, I reccomend getting all the Omoide Hatoba stuff as well... basically, all the Boredoms side bands are good, but omoide Hatoba is probably just as good (if not better) than the Boredoms themselves... and they do Pop Tatari-type stuff on the same albums as Vision Creation Newsun-type stuff.. haha..
