I know we have a dubstep thread, but this guy deserves his own thread. This dude blows my mind more than anyone else in these genres, I think, because he always catches me off guard with his sounds; takes his tracks in the most unexpected directions, but he still always rules. It's all about the little details in his tracks, which are all surprisingly minimal (he doesn't really use that many sounds overall, he just is constantly implementing them in exciting, new ways). He's up there with Autechre as far as electronic artists that I feel really stimulate my brain. Like a lot of dubstep and wonky, I just love how nothing is ever repeated really, a beat will always drop out or slightly change. Dude just kills it, consistently.

Cool songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMCOEJsnhDY = tarantula
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjEEjmeiYEc = gloop
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-BEqvrS24s = kaliko

just awesome...

I gotta say, the 2008 zomby ep is his best work.

This damn thing says I have to rep some more before repping you again. I wouldn't name Zomby my favorite wonky/dubstep artist, but he's definitely one of the most interesting, if not the most interesting. He really takes things to a whole other level. And he seemingly has no limit... when you'd expect him to release a wonky album he releases a rave/jungle album. And yes, his Zomby EP is definitely his best work. It sounds like every single track on there has its own soul... Spaceman for the mad chipdub, Kaliko for the insane weirdness, Test Me For A Reason sounds almost like Boards Of Canada, etc. Yet he manages to make everything sound amazing and cohesive as a whole. I love this record. Where Were You In 92 is fucking excellent too. Euphoria really makes me euphoric. I remember the first time I blasted this album, was listneing to it out loud, the first track got me like "well it's okay", and then that fucking bassline came out and I flipped out. I LOVE this bassline. And then Float, Tears In The Rain, Where Were U In 92, ... Such great tunes.
I was a bit disappointed by One Foot Ahead Of The Other, but it might be because I haven't listened to it enough. Godzilla fucking rules - it's actually my ringtone right now!

Also, my favorite wonky track and one of my favorite tracks ever is Rustie's remix of his Spliff Dub. The original version fucking slays, too.

fuck yes.

ONE FOOT is the only one I haven't played 500 times, so I'm not sure what I think of that one yet.

Yeah that wobbly ass bass in Euphoria is dark/insane as hell

I'm putting on ONE FOOT right now.. is it just me or does the title track sound like streets of rage music?

Y'know, I'm actually really really loving One Foot Ahead of the Other ep... this is only the 2nd time listening to it... I can see myself getting very addicted to it... That part at the end of Helter Skelter when the bass/synth/drum all line-up perfectly... the strange off-time little melody that occasionally comes in on the title track... the weirdness of Pumpkinhead's Revenge...on Polka Dot now which is one of my favorite tracks he's done.. wow. This is awesome.

Yeah, this guy just knows how to craft really brilliant catchy melodic riffs, without them every being cheesy.

"Polka Dot" has some of the most bizarre rhythm/tempo changes of any song I've eve heard.

Either way, this board definitely needs more "Techno".

All the most exciting music I've heard this year -- and, indeed, from the past few years -- has been electronic. I've heard very, very few bands with a guitar that have excited me in the least this year.

Yes, definitely.
Non-electronic albums I loved this year: Archie Bronson Outfit's Coconut, Gang Gang Dance's Kamakura, Konono N°1's Assume Crash Position, Liars' Sisterworld, Mahjongg's latest, Nice Nice's Extra Wow, Rocé's album, Strong Arm Steady's, Trans Am's, Yellow Swans' Going Places...
Electronic records I loved this year: too many to list them...

EDIT: add Sightings' album to this...

Most of those "non-electronic albums" have extremely prominent electronics in the mix, though. Haha.
