First time I ever saw SY live was the 2001 NYC Ghosts and Flowers Tour. I've heard people put this record down in comparison to their other work, but I absolutely love it! Plus it holds a special place in my heart because it's the first of many times I've seen SY perform live. I remember them opening I believe with "She is Not Alone." Or maybe not? It was what 7 or 8 years ago at this point. I particularly remember that song being a great one live! The NYC Ghost & Flowers songs were amazing in a live setting also. Man, what a sonic assault they put on live onstage! For the uninitiated, they may not get it, but SY fans totally take it all in and enjoy the noize!!! What an awesome show.. I think Thurston climbed one of the amps or something weird at this show. It was in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theater.

Climbing on amps doesn't seem entirely uncommon for Thurston. Was NYC your first Sonic Youth record?

Oh no! I had listened to them for quite some time before this. I believe my first SY record was Bad Moon Rising. My favorite is Sister, still is. The Year Punk Broke is also another early exposure of mine to SY.
