Okay, so neither one of these long-time video-game-music-making legends have released anything in a long, long time now (seriously -- 5 years since "Elf-Titled" by the Advantage?!).. but I've been re-listening to these awesome bands a lot lately and was curious what y'all think.
Personally, I'm going with the Advantages -- while they don't "rock" as much as Minibosses, their drumming (supplied by the Hella guitarist!) is top fucking notch, adds a new dimension to the songs. And the playing is a lot cleaner and more technical... they really nail these difficult songs, whereas I feel Minibosses simplify em for rock purposes (except for the bass playing, which is some of the best I've ever heard, period). Both bands are great but I enjoy putting on the Advantage's albums more. Minibosses. If only for that medley. Mega Man 2, great music.
Here's a slightly less good local band doing similar things. What you can't see in this clip is me talking Heidegger from a k-hole to someone who was increasingly far away.
