I would probably at a guess say the old neumann u47 tube condensers, large diaphragm, warm sound, then i would possibly say avalon compressors and parametric eq, and then probably neve or ssl mic pres on the console, knowing SY's penchant for quality analog. shure don't make much that are great for studio, let alone live, 58's and 57's are about there best and most solid mics along with the beta 58s and beta57a. and the vocals sounding loud is a mix thing, the sound of the signal is where the gear comes in.
