I just got news that my band may be playing a tv show/radio broadcast coming up in january, and frankly this crosses a massive line with the recent curing of my stagefright. I get butterflies thinking about it...

Does anyone have any advice for keeping your nerves for something like this?

I've been on tv and on the radio before, but never performing. (TV- I was doing a local high school trivia challenge my senior year, we won bitches!) and I've been on radio as a DJ. Dj'ing is pretty natural I find, but being in front of a TV camera can be a little daunting.

Bring a pair of sunglasses though. Those TV lights can be bright as hell. Try not to look into them.

Just go about it like you go about a show I'd say. Don't worry about how you look. Just play your music and have fun.

This reminds me I need to set-up to get one of my bands to do a radio broadcast.

I was a dj on a pirate station for 2 years...took me a long while to get comfortable with it, I used gtr pedals on my voice for a bit (pitch shiter Happy Harry Hard on style) before I went au natural. It was really fun, because there is kind of a zone you get into talking etc where it seem like you almost arent even thinking, just flowing.

I have a hard time being in front of video cameras, so that is the worst part.

i played on the university of oregon radio station a few months ago,
twas really fun, really didnt think about being on air. i personally know the DJ so it def came more natural.

as for tv, never been there...

I think it's easier. The audience is invisible. The only problem is sometimes you will be dealing with non-professional volunteer youngsters who sometimes don't know the difference between a guitar and a bass, and who don't tell you that the headphone mix is the mix going out over the air.

Im a DJ on my college station (see signature) and even though I get baaad stage fright, I find doing radio pretty easy since theres nobody physically there watching you do it. I would assume TV might be a little trickier since you will have all the camera people and producers around (and maybe a studio audience?). Also, it is kind of an unnatural setting to be in if youre used to doing live shows.

Either way, Im sure you'll do great.

When I was 16 my old band played live at a local college station. The mic they put on my amp didn't work for the first three songs and It ended up picking up my amp in the middle of the fourth song. We finished our set early so we got to play some records. I snuck in Mote and it was a memorable day. My point is don't get shitty microphones and listen to Sonic Youth.

In 1965 Wyeth Laboratories developed Inderal, the brand name for propranolol, which is an antianginal, antiarrhythmic, antihypersensative, antimigraine drug, and beta blocker.

In English, that means it helps treat the effects of anxiety or nervous tension, aggressive behavior, angina, high blood pressure, migraine, headaches, panic attack, phobias, schizophrenia, tremors, and to help prevent second heart attacks.

Inderal is not habit forming, may be taken for months or even years, and proper dosage must be determined and prescribed by a physician.

It's obvious to see why many musicians have found this drug to be extraordinarily useful if fighting the symptoms of performance anxiety.

Some musicians who use this drug have experienced significant reductions in their level of performance anxiety which, in turn, allows them to reach much high levels of consistency in their performing. Best of all, it isn't habit forming and side effects are rare and usually minor in character.

Personally? I'd go for the half bottle of Jack D. and a spliff.
