My set-up for noise...

Squier Tele (cranked full volume and tone)>Ibanez Tone Tank Classic metal (Volume at about half, tone at a quarter, distort. at 3/4 or full)>Dano Milkshake Chorus (speed at 0, depth at full)>Behringer X V-amp (Tweed or Modern Gain Amp Model)>Squier Sidekick 10-watt (volume at 3+, bass and treble at full)

Techniques..
1. Stand close and play harmonics or just one-chorders
2. Stand close and use a slide to just make noise
3. Press back of guitar next to amp
4. Hit back of neck until everything just builds into a wall of sound
5. Use toggle switch to creat noise until noise happens
6. Lean guitar against amp and tweak pedals, or just walk away for a few seconds or hours until the neighbors/police come

how are those squier teles? are they loud, noisy, and sharp like a real one. Im thinking of getting one but I dont want it if the pickups are not as hot as the real one...

bad bad mojo has a couple of kiss-ass net friends
Get a really crappy guitar... and a 20 watt guitar amp... take off the high E string.... and move the 5 other strings up a position... and where the old low E string use to be... replace it with a bass D or A string.... turn the volume all the way up, and run a metal pipe over the strings.... that's always fun. I love getting that little amp to smoke.

make neck pup high and middle pup a bit lower and then press on the strings where the pickups are. pretty fun.

I must say, delay almost always makes anything sound cool.

Put a toy laser over your guitar and let it beep. If your guitar is decent, you'll hear the beeping throuigh the amp. Now, press harder on the toy laser and play along, making really high pitched ringing sounds to the beeping.

The Tele is pretty good. They're good solid guitars for the price. The pickups tend to be a bit microphonic sometimes but nothing too serious. And the bridge pickup stills wails like crazy.

aLSO..

Try getting a simple, short sample (like a snare hit or beep.) Add about a minute of slience after it. (I did this in cool edit pro, but anything might work if you set it up right.) Then, Add some echo. Try a setting like the cool edit pro "Drain Pipe" one. Now here's the trick: Put the decay at %100, so it never fades out. It will keep on adding and adding onto itself.. It will make some really insane LOUD noise before it completely turns into white sound.

I have used that technique before and it can work wonders on a good day.Christian Marclay made some really good stuff with it.

The more obvious is to make sweet easy glitch by inserting little clips every .10 seconds in your mix and also opening files in goldwave/cool edit/etc that arern't audio files. try opening large exes.

"Stone Cold Steve Austin is a profane and violent man and anyone who lets their child wear his T-Shirt is saying it's ok for their kids to watch him on TV and act that way"

Read it again...and again. This is exactly what my mother was told by my little brother's school principal after she was called to bring him a change of clothes. The best part is he didn't even have a Stone Cold shirt on at the time. He was wearing a Resident Evil shirt.

My mom got a call to bring a change of clothes to the school for my brother. She simply assumed he had spilled something or whatever. When she got to the school and stopped at the office, my brother was there with the principal. They had made him turn his T-Shirt inside out because it depicted when the principal thought resembled Satan. She then ask my mother if she thought it did. My mom's honest to God reply was, "I don't know, I've never met him" My mom is one cool S.O.B. The principal didn't find the humor in that statement and proceeded to explain that the words "resident evil" meant that there was evil in one's residence and that the images of "Satan" and a corpse on the back were beyond what the school would allow. She then continued by saying she also doesn't want to see my brother in wrestling shirts anymore either...especially Stone Cold Steve Austin shirts because the man is profane and violent and anyone who lets their kids wear that kind of shirt is condoning those actions and saying its okay for their children to act like that and watch that kind of programming. Finally she explained to my mother that a 12 year old kid doesn't understand the difference between fantasy and reality before she let my mother leave.

I personally thought we'd heard the last of this crap but I guess the idiots in the trechcoat mafia ruined it for everyone. I personally would be very insulted if I were 12 years old and heard that my school principal didn't think I knew the difference between reality and fantasy. Fuck, what 5 year old doesn't understand that Resident Evil is a game and zombies don't really walk the Earth? Wouldn't it be funny if I got the principal's name and the school's phone number and posted it here for everyone to call and speak to her. Then when she picks up the phone yell, "Fuck You! Because Stone Cold said so and that's the bottom line, Jackass!" then hang up. But I won't do that. It'd be uncivilized. My advice to my brother was to wear his EC F'N W shirt to school tomorrow.

Another good trick is using cheap pc mics and treating them with fabrics or crumpled paper bags. You record into your computer and then sample and sequence the whole thing adding layers and layers of distortion to the results.A lot of the time the best noise i got was by just using my voice.

I love tuning it when it's feeding back. That's another 'technique' I use lots. And scraping the springs in the back... playing my littla sampling keyboard next to the pickups, with the amp super-loud, is sweet.

I got suspended for a day last year (grade eight!) because I refused to turn my Confusion is Sex+Kill Yr Idols shirt inside out. I also was suspected of being some gross-minded sicko this year in art class because I drew the Goo cover, words and all.
