Its always exciting to hear a song you know so well presented in an unusual way. An electric ditty xformed to acoustic. A faster version brought on by a speedy drummer. Some experimental interlude that was never there before and here you have the male to female vocal switch. Its cool and neu.
I always toyed with the idea "what if sy played around with role changes"
T-Bone singing "Shaking Hell
Lee singing "Drunken Butterfly"
Kim singing "Skip Tracer"
You know flip it up.

yyy's cover is quite nice in my opinion.explores the pop side of the diamond sea (and that's a powerful side in that song,and it's a good thing).dracula mountain sounds crappy coz that is not a song you can "interpret" in a different way.next we'll have paris hilton covering cpt.beefheart,apparently.

where do you hear this "nice" quality in the yyy cover? all i hear is some pretentious lady trying to be all emo and self-important ('this cover is gonna make history') about the song. i mean the acoustic guitar doesn't sound bad but she completely destroys the song.

it's right up there with blink 182 doing "freak scene"! but probably, since we are talking about the hippest band of the moment doing the cover, people are bound to think it's a "cool" cover.

actually the fact that it's done by yeah yeah yeahs does not affect my judgment.i do not like them that much,and surely i'm not a "victim of the hype" (my music tastes are way far from what is trendy/commercial/popular on many levels),i simply think it's not bad,it takes the song in a different direction (and it's a good thing for a cover),and if you have a problem with her vocals it does not mean it's a bad song,but simply that you don't like how she sings (or HER/what she represent for you as a whole judging by your words)

I don't think she is trying to be emo, or is self-important. Maybe it is because I have been a YYY fan since I was about 13, but I think she sounds nice.

I don't mind the cover. I agree with Nicfit. The "oohs" kinda seem iffy, but it's nice to go from one end of the spectrum to another. A good song will really survive all the cover versions people wanna do.

As for Muse covering LB, it was sorta weird, plus I was fucking pissed that they couldn't even get the location right. PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND DOES NOT EQUAL BOSTON YOU FUCKS!
