Steve Shelley in Pylon's 'Box''s liner notes

Well, actually, it's not your usual "liner notes"; it's a massive 208-page book with an extensive, excellent story of the band; an unbelievable collection of images; and a bunch of comments from musicians and writers - some contributed one-liners, most a paragraph, and a few came up with longer pieces. Steve wrote:

I was a teenage (barely!) Pylon fan!

At 19 watching and listening to what would be for me a life-changing concert —Pylon and Gang of Four in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the Second Chance on June 30, 1981— both bands would signal "This is the way and don't look back!" to any young would-be drummers in the audience. It's crucial that Pylon music is now available again for everyone to hear!

The rest of the "talking heads" are Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, R.E.M. in full, Gang Of Four's Jon King and Hugo Burnham, author Karen Moline, Big Black/Shellac/comeonyouknowthisguy Steve Albini, Dressy Bessy's Tammy Ealom, Deerhunter's Bradford Cox, Mission Of Burma's Clint Conley, The Muffs' Ronnie Barnett, The B-52's' Kate Pierson, The dB's' Chris Stamey, Oh-OK's Linda Hopper, Hercules & Love Affair's Andy Butler, author Anthony DeCurtis, The Method Actors' Vic Varney, The Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn, Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson, The Bongos' Richard Barone, and some mook from Interpol.

None of this would matter, of course, if the music weren't so sublimely off the charts.

Thanks for sharing. Pylon are an awesome band, I've always been a huge fan since first hearing Gyrate.
