I am visiting New York with two friends. Where should we go?

I was thinking about Knitting Factory, Whitney Museum, some galleries I red about (Pace/MacGill, Steven Kasher, ) Apollo Theatre, ..

We like clubs and dancing, but not too hiphop/R&B orientated.

Please help me.

i thought the knitting factory was closed.

(and if you don't want to be around anything too hip-hop or r&b oriented, you might wanna stay away from the apollo).

Your best bet is to pick up a copy of the Village Voice (free) and see who's playing...Unless you just want to go bar hopping.

I can give some good recommendations for cheap and good eats too - unless you're a veggie, then it becomes tougher.

you go to a webster hall show, and then you can stay for the disco after the show, if its on a weekend.

i dont love knitting factory, its kind of sterile, the bar area is not nice, search the threads here theres couple on this subject. prob Mercury Lounge, or Cakeshop(love the grungy bar downstairs) would be better choices. or Bowery Ballroom. just get tickets in advance, esp if its a Bowery Ballroom show, most of their shows sell out.

Thanx for the suggestions, greorgkrz

Does anyone have more suggestions? I am no veggie. So please tell me about the food too.

What about galleries in New York? Are there any really good ones?

I shouldn't assume you like interesting stuff just because you post here but I'll try. For clubs, it depends on whatyou want to get out of it. Hang out at Tribeca Grand Hotel or on W 14th (past 8th Ave) if you want to see Lindsay Lohan types. If you want music check The Stone. Check the listings on the Downtown Music Gallery update, also www.toddpnyc.com is the best game in town...the hipster shit is all in Brooklyn these days. Go to 50 1/2 E. 64th Street and see the friggin coolest Velvet Underground exhibit (I think its up until May 12)...there's plenty of websites for veggie food (I like Temple in the Village, a kind of sordid looking but superhealthy buffet thats been around forever)...in my opinion the Village Voice is a dead journal I don't even bother with it anymore, they killed it good, the free "L Magazine" is probably to your tastes ... if you go to one bookstore don't miss the Strand and the reviewer copiesin the basement...I actually like going to this place, and I really don't like bars at all: Union Pool, 484 Union Ave. Williamsburg, Brooklyn

www.toddpnyc.com as tesla69 said, best fucking DIY shows in town. Along with that, studio b is a lot of fucking fun for dancing and they play lots of good dance music in between sets and after sets, great place.

I'm not sure what you don't believe.

Right on St. Mark's place are a few Yakitori places - little bar-b-q'd things on skewers Japanese style for $2-3 a piece. Get a grilled rice ball and you too can be in Heaven - my fave one there is Oh! Taisho.

In the 30's off of Broadway are a number of Korean restaurants and it's possible to get an awesome meal with a ton of appetizers for under $10. I'm partial to Bibimbap. There's a great restaurant on 33rd called Seoul Garden.

In Chinatown on Doyer's street across from the Post office is the Excellent Pork Chop house. A meal there runs between $5-$10 and it's excellent Taiwanese homestyle cooking.

9th avenue between 42nd and 52nd is probably the best variety of restaurants - the Film Center cafe has an oyster bar, great martinis, and an ecletic mix. Island Burger makes some of the best burgers in the city.

79th street and B'way is Blondie's for the best wings in the city. Also try their smothered waffle fries.

That place is awesome! You order a big bowl of noodles for $10 but they bring out a big platter of weird ass appetizers that comes free with the meal. Never tried the BBQ, where they cook it at your table...for some reason I can't help thinking I'd like to get it on with the Misshapes hottie in the booth at Seoul Gardens.

for clubs and dancing that are more rock than hip-hop, check out snitch on 21st and 6th or the delancey in the lower east side. delancey has a pretty cool roof deck where you can smoke and some really good bands (more rock than indie) play in the basement. middle floor is a dance floor.

snitch gets packed. it's pretty gritty and dirty as well, but a hell of a lot of fun.

Are the TV shows op Times Square (like David Letterman or Jay Leno) nice to visit?

Is it even possible to get tickets to those kind of things?

We are coming from Europe, so it must be great to see american television stuff from nearby...

While you're here, I think it's important to do things that are uniquely New York. Eating at a New York style deli is great. I recommend Katz's. Huge meat sandwiches and other good stuff. It's been there since 1888, and it's close to Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Cakeshop and other places you may want to visit.

New York style pizza is also very unique, although there's much debate over where to get the best. Joe's, near Bleecker Street is good.

Taking a trip on the Staten Island ferry past the Statue of Liberty is a nice experience and doesn't cost much.
