Is ROIR U.K.-based? Maybe that's why nobody here has it.

I've always thought it was DC based? They released the first few Bad Brains releases, no?

Wow, my review's dragging on compared to Hip Priest's. Still, here we go again. Next track:

No idea again, psychedelicish, the only track so far that doesn't do a great deal for me - nice enough though. The vocals leave me cold - I think that's why - a bit weedy.

And the next track suffers from the same kind of weedy vocals & doesn't seem to go anywhere.

And back to the good stuff. You Don't Miss Your Water... but I don't know who this is. Sounds a bit like The Triffids or that kind of thing. I really like his voice (I mention vocals a lot don't I?). Really good version of this song.

The Jesus & Mary Chain. Can't remember the name of the song. As I've mentioned a few times here, I went to see them in 1985 but they were completely over-shadowed by the support band, a then little-known band called Sonic Youth. The last time I saw JAMC was 1998 and it was a sad thing to behold. They just couldn't be bothered to even try to look vaguely interested.

Felt next with Primitive Painters. I had a friend and we used to do gig swaps. I'd go to see one of his bands, then he'd come & see one of mine. I took him to see Firehose, he took me to see Felt; I took him to see Henry Rollins, he took me to see Felt; I took him to see The Jesus Lizard, he took me to see Felt. Do you see where this is going? I couldn't believe how fanatical Felt fans were. And to get back to vocals, I couldn't stand Lawrence's voice. The only album of theirs I really liked was the instrumental one (Train Above The City?). This is a really good song though, with Liz Fraser on vocals.

And that's the end of Side One. Sorry for the lengthy review, but I'm LOVING it.

I can let you know now, or you can give another listen?

Well, feel free to identify it if you don't mind. I'm going to take the tape into work tomorrow and I'll make a special point to listen to the secret track.

One of these two tracks is My Bloody Valentine covering Wire's "Outdoor Miner", the other one I can't remember. But it's been voted a miss, so it doesn't really matter.

The Triffids it is. I adore this song.

Not JAMC, but Jim Reid covering The Beatles "And Your Bird Can Sing" from the CD on the cover of one of the music monthlies a couple of months ago. I had forgotten what a beautiful voice he has until I heard this.

I'm not a Felt fan, but Primitive Painters is a brilliant track because of the contrast between Laurence's dour disinterest and Liz Fraser's soaring passion. A mid-80's masterpiece.

I'm glad you (mostly) enjoyed side one. I made it more with American youth in mind, a sort of an introduction to what was going on in in the UK in the '80s. Side two I compiled as a contrast to the pop direction of side one. Somehow I suspect it won't have hit the spot quite so well, particularly bearing in mind the number of times you've mentioned vocals so far. But we shall see.

The tape that I've been sent to listen to arrived at my girlfriend's yesterday (I have most of my post sent there because my own postman finds walking up the stairs to my flat too much like hard work and just leaves my letters at the bottom of the stairs where anyone can pick them up), so I'll get to listen to it today.

It was a bit of an invisible jukebox thing because i didn't have any tracklisting.Anyway,on it i've found the Ramones,Belle and Sebastian,NWA,Interpol,Pavement,Catpower,Beck,The Stone roses,Miles Davis(?) and a few more that i hope Danny himself will tell us as about as i'm not too sure.I quite enjoyed listening to it and the kid spent 4 hours making it wich i've found very sweet. What is the last track on side 2?That is an ace tune but i don't recall knowing it at all.

Hip Priest, the mystery track is No-Neck Blues Band, "The Doon," from Qvaris.

Thanks mate. I'm too busy in work today due to short staffing, but I'll check that out this evening.

That was a really nice tape. It was good to have so much that I hadn't heard before.

I don't suppose you know what the ambient beepy bit was, on the FM scan?

No, I don't. Sorry. That was from the college radio station here. They're not good about backlisting their songs--I stayed on the airwaves a while to find out, cuz I really liked it too, but they never ran down their playlist, the slackers!

Glad you like the tape--in spite of Teenage Fanclub!

What's wrong with Teenage Fanclub? They are one of the best inoffensive bands that the man on the street could ask for.I'll listen to 'Mellow doubt' right now to prove it cause the phone's gone dead today.

They're smelly pooballs, that's wrong with them.

Stilluppsteypa, on the other hand, are pretty ace, and I'm going to re-record their four tracks onto another tape until I find some of their stuff for sale.

And I will keep the mixtape in my collection for future listening, of course.

I now have the tape that Pookie sent me. If you are a fan of Latvian folk tales, as adapted by Amy Friedman and illustrated by Jillian Gilliland, I am the recipient of your mixtape. I do my research you see. Don't reveal yet who you are though, I want to see if I can guess.

I procured the Stillupps... EP from Pookie, by the way. I've been trying to track down more of their stuff, too. They do indeed rock it.

Teenage Fanclub. What can I say? I love Bandwagonesque. Slip into the disc player some quiet, snowy December afternoon, and it's perfect. I'm like 30 years younger and in love again with the girl down the hallway standing at her locker.

Each to their own. I love the Sugababes and Paddington Bear, and biscuits in the shape of cute little animals. And do I feel embarrassed? No way.

I don't want you to feel like we're ganging up on you, but surely the endless puns alone should have put you off. Mind you, I did like the record they made with Jad Fair. But I think that was more down to Jad than them.

I really enjoyed side one. I've never been a fan of MBV, but I didn't recognise it as them or as a Wire cover. I'll have to listen closer next time.

And because your tape stayed in the UK, I'll make sure the next one definitely goes overseas. I don't know if that will affect your choices.
