Funny that Danny was being vetted for G-Unit at one point. I can't say it's a match I'd have come up with. But you never know.

You know that scene The Dark Knight where the token black gangster orders his thugs to bring him the joker's body, and then some thugs come in with a body bag, and when the "boss" opens it up, Jokers jumps up and the thugs who brought him in pull out AK's and point them at everyone while the Joker puts a knife to boss-boy's cheek and drops him like a a rag doll?

I can't help but think of that scene when I hear about 50 Cent dissing Danny Brown. G-Unit had their time, but Danny Brown is like the fucking joker; infinitely more talented and versatile than Don Fitty. I can't imagine he'd stage a coup and rip 50's face apart, but you get the idea.
yeah. Danny said that 50 Cent didn't let him in G-Unit because he wore skinny jeans, lol.

but then things turned out the best for him. he would probably never make XXX if he did.

He's too weird and crazy for G-Unit, or for 50... For most rap fans even. Don't get me wrong, I think he works well in a group (1train) and some groups would be more up his alley than G-Unit (like, uhh, Three Six Mafia maybe? Or Underachievers? But G-unit is straight forward thug rap. Danny is a wildcard, and 50 probably just didn't want to be upstaged.

Though I have no love for skinny jeans. It's impossible to look even semi-professional in skinny pants of any kind. Loafers look awkward, and testicles tend to suffer. They are the enemy of tasteful attire.

In fairness I think 50 is a pretty weird funny dude. Look at "how to rob" or his rick ross diss videos. Problem is, as a buz man he realized where he fits in, and just plays to his niche.

Yeah, I actually think he's pretty hilarious when he wants to be. I also think he is, or was, an exceptional rapper. But ... I think Danny Brown's more exceptional, and also more funny. But they're apples and oranges, which is probably why they'd end up killing one another if they were Batman villains.

I watch Street Flava which comes on in Houston late Saturday nights.

D Solo has had this video show for over 20 years, first on Houston PBS, then he went to a regular syndication because too many old ladies complained about the Bootie Poppin video being aired on PBS. HA!

Either way. They focus mainly on Southern rap acts, for Street Flava is the "soul of the South."

Do you guys listen to these tracks?

Its insane to me that 36 Mafia actually put out more than one record... when their first one came out it was so ludicrously bad, they were so bad, it all screamed one hit wonder..

The wonder was how did they even have one hit to begin with?

Its not like the mainstream radio crowd is fraught with smokers, snorters, and sippers who drop pills yo

their first album was Mystic Stylez in 1995. There was a "hit" on there? What? Anyway, their early albums are incredibly good. So yeah. I disagree with your post.

@Rob: i've heard the Chedda song before. catchy but not something i'd bump on the regular.

Mystic Stylez is a classic. but it's a Digable Planets kind of day.

your opinion is yours to have. There's lots of Three 6 stuff I love.

I do some times get the feeling that you hate on stuff that you've spent little time listening to. I don't know if I'm right on this one. But you give the impression of snap judgments sometimes.

it's not great by any means, but I dig how rappers are now proudly flying their psychedelic, drugs-other-than-coke-and-weed, freak flags. I cannot WAIT for the Butthole Surfers of rap!!!

Music is a matter of personal taste, i never found any interest in pursuing 36 Mafia clown rap any further.. you're free to dig it, im just expressing my opinion. Im notoriously picky about my rap

I agree it's personal taste. I'm just saying I feel like your pickiness is more stubborness at times. Like, you might hear one song out of a group that has a dozen albums, but decide that they're terrible. Even though you haven't heard but the tip of the iceberg of their discography.

I'm not saying that you have to be a fan. But I feel like you write off something pretty quickly - and even here admit that you didn't pursue very far - yet, then call it "clown rap" or whatever dismissive comments you might make, which seems unfair if you really haven't taken the time to check it out and see if you're opinions actually match your assumptions.

alright well (huge) diff of opinion then.

Currently my fav Three 6 album is their 2nd one, The End:

Quote:
It's kind of weird to call your second album The End, but whatever. The greatness of this album totally overshadows any nitpicking of the title. It certainly picks up right where Mystic Stylez left off. It's got that same creepy vibe, yet is far better produced. The album kicks off with "Stomp" - a track that samples the theme song from Unsolved Mysteries and carries all the creepy cache that said theme song might carry. It's haunting and spooky and impressive and dope. It's also an excellent way to start things up. The record moves along and manages to never sound overlong even at 17 tracks. The well thought-out sequencing plays a big role in this. "Late Night Tip" is another eerie track with fantastic back-and-forth between Gangsta Boo and Lord Infamous. "Walk Up 2 Yo House" makes you feel like these guys are insane - in a good way. Later on Project Pat shows up on "Where Da Killaz Hang," a track that makes a stray Master P lyric sound like the most demented thing you've ever heard. It slowly makes your head nod, but also makes you feel kind of nervous at the same time. Three 6 is great at making these kinds of schizophrenic tracks. The album closes with the one-two punch of "The End," an instrumental that could very well be a horror movie score, and "Life Or Death" a Killa Klan Kaze track that heavily features snippets of Makavelli's "Hail Mary" slowed down for ultimately macabre-ness. Whereas many artists can only hope to avoid the sophomore slump, Three 6 Mafia has managed to follow up their debut with a record that is absolutely stunning.
