OMG. Comment?
Alright, listen. Kill Bill Vol. 1 is straight up fun. But Kill Bill Vol. 2 is a great film. I've watched the 2nd one soooooo many times.

You know how I feel about Tarantino.
He's a very smart guy, obviously. Reservoir Dogs proves two things to me: He has an excellent taste in actors (Keitel, Buscemi, Roth are all great!) and he has seen lots of good movies (A Better Tomorrow, City on Fire, The Killer, etc.). I know I give him a lot of shit but really, even though he clearly ripped off a lot of parts of other movies, he was able to infuse it with a lot of creative directing and some awesome dialogue. Also, he made it for very cheap. A very simple and great concept and one of my favorite films ever, no matter what. So, Tarantino has my respect. I think everything he's done, aside from Death Proof, has some good stuff in it. But honestly I think the dialogue, his most "respected" element, is absolutely atrocious in the Kill Bill films. The action is fucking great, especially in volume 1, but the "storyline" is hard to take seriously and the characters are just... well... I mean, I don't like a single character in either one of those films. It's hard to enjoy a movie when the characters suck, the story sucks, and the dialogue sucks. And since volume 2 is almost solely characterization, story, and dialogue... well... Still, again, Tarantino has good tastes. He used some Fabio Frizzi music from "The Beyond" in vol. 2, which made me smile. He used Chiaki Kariyama (BONER!) after seeing her in the excellent "Battle Royale". This guy knows great films (didn't he use some music from "Blow Out" in Death Proof? I think I remember that.. if so, then.. well, Death Proof still sucks.. but cool!). I will always respect him for bringing Sonatine and Chungking Express over here. Still, I think the best elements of Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 could have been merged together to create an amazing film. As it is, at over 4 hours (maybe 5 hours?) between both of them, it's just a bit much. Just not my thing. Here's my take on it: Tarantino is a clever guy, but he's not THAT clever. The "Superman" speech at the end of Volume 2 might be the worst thing I've ever heard in a film by a big-name director. You gotta respect the guy for his love of cinema. He's even turned me onto some great movies that I would've never heard of if he wasn't for him (All About Lily Chou-Chou, which is one of my all time favorite films... so thanks, Tarantino! Also, Thriller: A Cruel Picture I'd never heard of before he mentioned it). Also, I he's apparently producing Tetsuo III. I mean, the guy has all kinds of cool shit going on, so I don't hate him. But his films are a bit... all over the place for me. ......also, has anyone ever seen the movie SIX STRING SAMURAI? I love that movie so much. |

Oh, and if you're wondering, I will be seeing INGLORIUS BASTERDS (or however he misspelled it) but only because my girlfriend is a big Tarantino fan. I'm still curious to see it, regardless of that, though I think it looks absolutely terrible.

I will say, I've seen it only twice, while I've seen volume 1 probably 7 times. I like that Tarantino takes chances. I mean, he really does -- "Death Proof", while embarassing and awful to me, was a very risky move by him. And, ultimately, it bombed badly, but come on.. how could it not? 45 minutes of it is a girl riding on a car! Still, he clearly has balls, I guess. And volume 2 gets my respect since it does away with action completely (except for one fight) and, if I remember correctly, only 1 person gets killed in it! Actually, kinda brilliant -- there's almost no real violence in it. Also, there's a loooooong stretch of the movie where the Bridge gets captured, buried, and has to fight her way out. I really love that part, everything about it, and I think the way he split up the movies was quite brilliant. Still, about half of Volume 2, I could've done without, and the final confrontation with Bill was just kinda silly. |

WELL you know how I feel about Death Proof, so I won't bother. BUT I will say the "buried alive" scene in KILL BILL 2 is incredible. Maybe one of his best scenes ever. I remember in the theater feeling claustrophobic by this scnene. And the fact it leads to a flashback, and then resolution and amazing music... it's so great. Anyway. I haven't seen any trailers for Inglorious Basterds. But I will be there. And I'm excited. And it's gonna be weeeeeiiiird. Cuz I love Tarantino and hate most war films. I expect something else entirely though

Haha, you should seriously go watch a trailer for it. Trust me, it looks like awful garbage. But, eh, I will still see it anyway...

Trailer Park of Terror
Well, it was $5 in the bargain bin at HEB. You get what you pay for, I suppose. Horrible, cheesy horror flick. But horrible in a fun way. I will make everyone I know watch it. |

Until further experience is obtained with buspirone, patients should be warned not to operate an automobile or undertake activities requiring mental alertness, judgment and physical coordination, until they are reasonably certain that buspirone does not affect them adversely.

Kill Bill was originally intended to be a single film. The studios forced QT to split it into 2 separate pieces to make KB more profitable. Tarantino may be considered a 'hack', or a 'plagiarist' by some; and a brilliant director who adores paying 'homage' to his favorite films by others. It all depends on how you look at it. Nearly everything he 'borrows' from other films, has been openly admitted, and cited as 'influences' by QT himself. |
