This is done on purpose to properly immerse the viewer into thinking they are actually transported back to the 90's and are watching the film on a square 90's T.V......Probably.
I watched Carnival Of Souls like this (before i found THE button) and i found i was living a 60's trip back to new found glory days containing wine and granular experiments involving movements designed to manipulate ever-growing alcohol problems.
