Neither of us can prove that either way. However, to go back to the radio analogy, most of what we hear on the radio we don't buy either. Nonetheless, the radio has proven to be much more of a promotional tool for music sales than an alternative to buying music. Mind the labels didn't think it would be, and they were horribly frightened of those innocuous cassette tapes as well. And VCRs were supposed to hurt movie sales too, which is particularly amusing when you see the amount of movies people buy and rent these days.
