The Avant-Garde by John Coltrane and Don Cherry is one of the jazz albums I've owned the longest.

It's an album I enjoy, but I believe the title is all wrong. I didn't feel this away until I purchased, 'Free Jazz' by Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry. To my ears, this album should be called, 'The Avant-Garde.'

Last but not least, I highly recommend:

^^there was some good discussion about this album in another thread a few years back, but my quick search turned up nada. I will search later tonight, but now I'm out the door headed to Houston for the day......
