Scorsese was probably the best director of his generation but I think he went off the boil a long time ago. I'd say that right now Michael Mann is probably my favourite filmmaker currently working in the mainstream - and the Coen Brothers are still always at least interesting. I don't think Scorsese has done much of any real worth probably since Casino. (Although I seem to be alone in really liking The Departed, even though I'll admit that it's not that great a movie.)

Michael Mann has sucked since "The Insider". "Public Enemies" was the most disappointing film I've ever seen. I was stoked when it came out, but besides a cool performance by Depp and awesome Otis Taylor tracks, it had NOTHING going for it.
