This Thursday, Low will be playing an experimental set at Sacred Heart in Duluth with some avant garde composers. Come get out with us.

Low with special guests Anne Le Berge, Tim Kaiser and Willful Devices

Thursday July 11, 2013
8:30 pm
$10 advance or at the door

Sacred Heart Music Center presents an evening of adventurous music featuring home town favorites Low and Tim Kaiser along with Anne Le Berge and Willful Devices. This show features some exciting experimental new music presented in the fabulous acoustic space that is Sacred Heart.

Low is on break from extending touring to support their Jeff Tweedy produced new record, The Invisible Way, and fresh off their controversial performance at Rock The Garden where they played only one extended song for their entire set. Sacred Heart is where they recorded the albums Trust and C'mon and is one of their favorite venues. This show promises to be another highlight of their long and distinguished career.

Tim Kaiser is Minnesota’s raison d’être for musical exploration and all-around tinkering with instruments, Kaiser commands his creations with simple sweeps of his hands, willing sounds into existence. He has scored films, been featured on PBS as well as in magazines, and has toured extensively. How he gets by airport metal detectors with his devices is anyone’s guess, but his hand-built instruments are as alluring as the sounds they make. Kaiser has been a founding contributor and champion of the Weirdo Industrial Complex for more than 30 years.

Anne Le Berge's career as flutist/improviser/composer stretches across international and stylistic boundaries. Her most recent performances bring together the elements on which her international reputation is based: a ferocious and far-reaching virtuosity, a penchant for improvising delicately spun microtonal textures and melodies, and her wholly unique array of powerfully percussive flute effects, all combined with electronic processing.

Willful Devices is a collaboration between composer/computer musician Scott Miller and performer/improviser Pat O’Keefe. The duo’s name refers to the fact that both musicians are manipulating devices, be it a clarinet or a laptop, in order to generate sonic material. Anyone who works with computers or musical instruments knows that despite your best efforts, these devices are never fully under your control, and seem to have a mind of their own. Scott and Pat accept this fact, and even celebrate it, because within this unpredictability lies the potential for unimagined sonic discoveries.

You won't want to miss this the night of great music at the beautiful Sacred Heart.
