They don't really bug me though, because I feel a complete nothingness for their nothingness. It's not that there are reasons to dislike (or indeed like) them; rather, the thing is that I can't find anything

edit: after studying that photograph, the thing I recall most clearly is that the brickwork on the wall seems to have been done quite professionally.
