I do like the Flaming Lips, though. A lot.
p.s. there are a great many goths who claim to hate the Lips, but they'd still get down to "Jesus Shootin' Heroin", or any number of other uber-depressing songs from their early days.
Actually, I don't see any reason why "goth" and the Lips would be against one another.
Oh well. Fuck it. Great band. I don't get the Manics comparison, though. Totally different breed of fans. Irritating in totally different ways.
