Just been getting back into this band, in general. So awesome. They were always compared to Beefheart, but I don't think that's accurate at all. Certainly, both bands often played -- for lack of a better word -- DECONSTRUCTIONIST ROCK. But Beefheart's magic band is, simply put, one of the most insanely talented bands of all time, and their songs were rehearsed to death... also, 90% of Beefheart's songs were fast. U.S. Maple's songs are usually quite slow, and there's lots of improvisation, and the songs are clearly going for something quite different than Beefheart's stuff. Still, both bands are excellent, both created their own musical language, and both deserv to be herd people with minds and open ears.
