Sonic Youth
Rather Ripped
Once again a quartet after the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke, the long-running avant-rock band release their 20th album. It's a softer, more introverted take on the classic SY sound than their last few outings, scaling back the noise and amping up the tunes.
6/13

A few more of note from the current issue of Entertainment Weekly...

Frank Black - Fastman Raiderman 6/20
Thom Yorke - The Eraser 7/11
Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche (outtakes from Illinois) 7/11
Los Lonely Boys - Sacred 7/18
New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This (Johansen & Sylvain)
Tom Petty - Highway Companion (TP returns with a third solo album produced by Jeff Lynne & with Mike Campbell guesting, of course) 7/25
Pharrell Williams - In My Mind 7/25
DJ Shadow - The Outsider 8/1
Mars Volta - Still Untitled (John Frusciante guests) 8/15
Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways (previously unreleased outtakes from Rick Rubin's vault) 7/4
