I was at the bar with my then-girlfriend a few years ago chatting with him (not about Pavement...about KISS). Super-nice guy. He gave us a buy back (a classy move, bartenders) and then was minutes from closing down when suddenly a party of ten kids came in and were like "Are you still open? Cool!" and sat down. Mark wasn't happy.
Let this be a warning to all you patrons out there: entering a restaurant minutes before they close is a suck move. You're keeping the whole staff there an extra hour for what amounts to the waiter/bartender as a $5 tip. Don't do it.
