VAN DYKE PARKS "SONG CYCLE"
1968, Warner Brothers

40 years old and still sounds like it'd be ahead of its time if released today. Bizarre, quirky, fun pop that is all over-the-place and unlike anything you've probably ever heard. The first time I heard this, I thought of Jim O'Rourke's Eureka-type recordings, only to find out later in an interview that I read that's it's his favorite record of all time. Very eclectic, beautiful, well-made, etc. I dunno what else to say. An important, often overlooked record.
