Swans Recruit Karen O, Low, Akron/Family for Album

Back in July,
we reported that post-punk/noise legends
Swans were working on a lengthy new album. At the time, they were playing two-and-a-half hour-long live shows ("and the album may be a comparable length," we said) with new songs that were as long as 30 minutes. Now, according to
SPIN's interview with Swans frontman Michael Gira, that material is going to be on a new LP titled
The Seer, due out this summer via Gira's
Young God Records.
The album will indeed feature around two hours of music on a double CD and triple vinyl. Gira also confirmed that some of the tracks would clock in at 30 minutes. Gira told
Spin, "To me it’s the complete synthesis of everything I’ve done and Swans has done."
He also teased guest spots on the album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs'
Karen O, Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of
Low, and "Beach Boys-style harmonies" from
Akron/Family.
Gira is about to start a world tour performing solo in support of his recent compilation
The Milk of M. Gira: Collected Solo Home Recordings 2001 - 2010.
