trompe le monde is okay, has some great guitar work, probably the more interesting album in terms of... sound texture. but i have always taken the pixies as a pop rock band and not some sort of avant-garde outfit. yes they were never too mainstream but they were the children of the beatles. and since pop rock is about songs, DOOLITTLE is probably my favorite pixies album... as a whole, it has more of their best songs. i'll take sufer rosa and bossanova (and come on pilgrim) ahead of the franco nero solo album on those grounds. eta: surfer rosa sounds better than doolittle and has great songs so that'd be my other candidate for favorite.
