Cognac is twice distilled, most brandy wines are only single distilled, and cognac is aged longer in different kinds of barrels. Its not quite just a matter of origin, as say agave and tequilla which are literally the same drink. Cognac is made slightly different than brandy, hence the enormous difference in price.
