Reservoir Dogs (7/10)

It's not the revelation that it seemed when I first saw it. Some of the dialogue now comes over as really stilted and I'd forgotten just how reliant the whole thing is on Steve Buscemi, who pretty much steals every scene he's in (although Chris Penn is excellent, even if it took me until now to notice). It still has the same energy, though. It's probably a film that's best not thought about too much and enjoyed simply for what it is: a top grade heist movie.

Death Proof (3/10)

A little unfair to judge this (the two hour stand-alone version) outside of its intended double-bill setting but anyway. I just can't believe that Tarantino has managed to make a movie featuring Kurt Russell as a maniac TV stunt man and two car-loads full of sexy women (one of whom is wearing a cheerleader outfit), boring. It's fucking up what is (to my mind anyway) a totally unfuckupable concept.
