In t'olden days, the Hampshire/Surrey accent was what was known as a BBC accent, e.g. well-spoken and understandable to all. These days, of course, the BBC is riddled with regional accents - Another example of the terrible dumbing down of the televisual media, I'm afraid. It matters not, though, as no-one on the BBC says anything worth understanding these days anyway.
