not all natives are the same. i think you mean the plains indians, particularly the lakotas and the comanche empire, plus some others i don't know.

pueblos were more agricultural, navajos pastoral, apaches combined agriculture with raiding, pimas ate what they could eke out from the desert (like mesquite beans), etc. in alaska it's fish and whale and seal and so forth. not sure about the earlier inhabitants of manhattan.
