yeah corn makes a diff alcohol than harder grains. i don't know how to explain but these were my dad's instructions when i started drinking. "grain with grain ok, grain with fruit no"
that's why you can have beer and scotch, scotch and vodka, even gin, and be ok, but you add rum, wine, cognac, and you DIE.
i'd put corn w/ the fruit cos it's like a juicy kinda grain, sugary, not really like the others ha ha ha.
anyway, rule of thumb, you'll learn what mixes "clean" and what releases black fumes.
