I actually started listening to Fahey w/ a bootleg of his that was featured in this forum, (Bootleg/share thread), but there's a great box set of Fahey's released on Table of The Element's that's devoted to giving first time listener's a better oversatnding of what Fahey was all about.

If you have the $, &/or the means to start listening to Fahey, I'd choose the box set, "Sea Changes & Coelacanths: A Young Person's Guide To John Fahey".
