Billy Liar.
I've read the book a few times (which I think deals with similar themes to The Catcher In The Rye but is superior and deserves to be better-known - and I like The Catcher In The Rye) and I didn't know how they could make a film out of it but it's brilliant. The direction is suprisingly inventive, kind of 'British new wave' - if it wasn't for the fashions of the older characters, you would swear that it was made a decade later. All of the performances are spot-on. I never realised Julie Christie used to be so good-looking either. It's got everything, really.
