Yay! a huge security corridor down the middle of the country, and a great way to deliver the tar sands and frakota oil to the foreign markets down in TX ports.

President Barack Obama on Friday (dec 18 2015) ended 40 years of U.S. crude oil export limits by signing off on a repeal passed by Congress earlier in 2015.

I believe the security aspects of the pipeline have not been considered by the opposition, because this knowledge would NOT appeal to many Americans who otherwise wouldn't care. Seeing the country split down the middle is not a positive image. they will probably use clouds of drones to monitor it. those who see the opportunity will get rich. effectively there won't be any way to get past the pipeline on the ground without being on their surveillance system. like it or not.

its not like they are going to let people hike next to it - who would want to anyway.
