this is a screen capture of a song ripped from cd, that's mastered too loudly and features the dynamic range compressed and chopped off:



 





this is the same song, a vinyl rip (done by myself) which was converted to mp3. no clipping or loss of dynamic range.
sure it may be quieter, but the wav file is completely intact:



 



the first thing I did when I bought the deluxe version of Daydream was to rip one of the songs and see whether it had been mastered too loud. of course it had.
Louder is not better.
