Oh, come off it. Thurston is totally a rock star, he revels in it and has fun with it, and anyone who hasn't figured that out since like 1986 at least, really hasn't been watching. It doesn't take hits to be a rock star, it takes attitude and a following.

There's nothing wrong with it either, and Thurston while a complete smart ass on stage and in interviews is an incredibly approachable person to his fans. So are the rest of Sonic Youth (approachable, he seems like the token smart ass, though I've heard Lee pull a couple great one-liners in interviews many years ago) , probably because the whole famous thing to them is mostly a hoot and occasionally maybe mildly annoying.
