the point here is, to use a "name-title" that's not outright offensive (hence leaving off something like "professor" which would infer stupidity), and use something that can really go either way.
I was told (by a master-chiefer) that chiefing somebody is really the top choice here. it's not going to drag you into a fight, but clearly, they aren't the chief of
anything, and so it just works.
