Their first album, the one with New Life and Just Can't Get Enough, harmless pop actually sounded quite fresh at the time, and was definitely a personal hit circa summer 82. It didn't hold up for me, the technology used sounds primitive now, but not primitive in a good way. But there were a bunch of synthpop bands at the time writing strong SONGS, Human League, Heaven 17, Flock of Seagulls come to mind.
