Got the kind of record catch today that comes only very rarely.

Globe Unity Orchestra and Guests - Pearls (FMP 0380) (VINYL!)

Was digging in a local charity shop and I found this for £1.50. They clearly had no idea what it was. Not a recording I've heard of before, but for £1.50 I obviously bought it as fast as I could. As far as I can see, this has never been issued on CD.

Studio recording, from during the 1977 "New Jazz Meeting" celebrating the Orchestra's anniversary, according to the back sleeve.

Just look at this fucking lineup!

Trumpets: Enrico Rava, Manfred Schoof and Kenny Wheeler

Reeds: Anthony Braxton, Peter Brotzmann, Rudiger Carl, Gerd Dudek, Evan Parkerand Michel Pilz

Trombones: Gunter Christmann, Albert Mangelsdorff and Paul Rutherford

Piano: Alexander Von Schlippenbach

Basses/Tuba*: Peter Kowald* and Buschi Niebergall

Percussions: Paul Lovens

Yes.
