poor steve, i'm assuming you'd have him drum for the crucifucks too?

steve is an amazing drummer. i grew up thinking dave grohl was the best drummer in the world. then i thought i was really cultured when i decided it was john bonham. then i saw sonic youth live for the first time.

fuck!

i had never appreciated steve when listening to the studio albums, but now i do. this dude can motor on for hours with metronome accuracy. lee can be on his knees gradually turning up one pot on a volume pedal, thurston is leaning on his amp drinking coffee while his guitar screams on the same unrelenting wail, kim... well we all know she doesn't play any longer. this goes on for 10, 15, 20 minutes and steve creates 40 different patterns, 40 different parts, 40 different fucking songs. the man is immense. if he nipped off for a pee you'd realise how dull and inane it all was.

i want to say he is good, but it's not enough. he is the best drummer i've had the pleasure of seeing, the best drummer most people i know have ever seen.

oh... and apparently he is a nice bloke.
