That or your theology is a bit off. Let me flip it around for you, if humans didn't have free will and could only ever do "what God wants" would you still be yourself or merely a robot? The answer to the question, "why do bad things happen to good people or in general" is simply because God respects the free will of bad people equally as "good" people
