She seems to be forgetting a few things about Glorious Chairman Mao, such as his mass executions of landlords which began as soon as he gained power, his Great Leap Forward which backfired and caused the deaths of tens of millions of people through starvation, and his Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, which saw the brutal suppression of minority cultures (such as the demolition of Tibetan monasteries in furtherance of the struggle against the Four Olds). What has Trump done so far which remotely resembles Mao's totalitarian movement? The very fact that many of his campaigns have been stymied by court orders clearly shows that the rule of law still exists in this country, despite the personality cult clearly surrounding the President.
Much of the rest of her analysis actually bears out points I've been making all along, that being that the class struggle in this country has been suppressed by the ruling class by means of constant appeals to multiculturalism, with racial minorities being presented as the victims of oppression by a system in which ALL white people, including the working class, are seen as being privileged relative to minorities. And such rhetoric was pretty standard within the Democratic Party and the news networks and even the entertainment shows on television during the 2016 election cycle, even as the life expectancy of non-college-educated whites was plummeting. The theme of Hillary Clinton's campaign, as enunciated in her acceptance speech before the Democratic National Convention, was that everything was fine and dandy, and that Trump's "dark vision" of the state of the nation was false.
The ruling class in this country appeared to have convinced themselves of the truth of their own propaganda, and were truly shocked by the results of the election.
Since then, they have comforted themselves in the belief that the white working class voted the way they did purely out of racial hatred, yet this analysis hardly accounts for the facts. It fails to account for the fact that Trump won more than 30% of the Latinx vote, as well as the fact that, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Trump won almost three times as many Muslim votes as Republican candidate Mitt Romney won four years earlier.
And concerning her comparison of Mao and Trump: it's not the Trump supporters on college campuses who are "fiercely criticizing" bourgeois liberal professors and students, but, rather, it's the liberals who are visiting ideologically motivated persecution ("calling out") of pro-Trump students and faculty on campus, in a fashion quite similar to Mao's Cultural Revolution-era purges of the "Four Olds" on Chinese campuses at the time.
