It started in a very powerful yet subtle way, and by the final stretch it sounded really massive and reached quite an exciting climax when Lasse Marhaug took the top cover off of his monitor, and just cranked it up really really loud with bursts of sort of percussive patterns and white noise, and it seemed that the speakers were just about to explode. The whole PA was taken to its limits, I guess. He was really into it, kicked off his chair away, and gave the impression he wanted to kick the living shit out of something, or just have a seizure, but maybe he had to keep it together in light of the fact that he was actually surrounded by members of the audience who were perhaps way too close to his space. That lasted only a few seconds, though. He then proceed to manipulate his gear conjuring up wild cacophonous sounds, with his eyes closed as if he was in such a trance. It was really captivating. One of the best performances of the whole Aural Festival, and really my favorite one out of the four of his that I saw last month during his visit to Mexico.

I recorded all sets from this night. My capture of Anla Courtis will follow.

Also, there are a few other recordings of recent performances by Lasse Marhaug in Norway (one of them with Maja Ratjke and another with Alex Gunia) up at 300 Acting Spaces; a project curated by Alex Gunia which aims to have 300 live performances of noise and experimental manifestations of music and its relationships with the visual arts, per year, at 5 different cities, with Oslo being the first one of them, and subsequently and in many cases providing documentation in the form of archived audio, both lossy and lossless, and sometimes with multiple sources of most shows (on SoundCloud), video (on their youtube channel), and high quality photography (on flickr), and even real-time streaming through their main site; with the final intent of publishing a book with content gathered from all these explorations. It is one of my favorite places on the Internet, an example that many should follow, and a source of bliss and discovery I would humbly recommend anyone to check it out if they are interested in noise and experimental music, most of all in the current Norwegian scene. In addition to the aforementioned recordings of Lasse Marhaug, they have soundboard captures of performances by Okkyung Lee in collaboration with Kjell Bjorgeengen, Kari Rřnnekleiv, and Ole Henrik Moe (the best of the series to me); Kristoffer Lislegaard, Jon Wesseltoft, Dave Phillips, and so many others.

Official website, with accurate information, and links to their official SoundCloud, Youtube, flickr, twatter and facemook:
