He's a senator and was supposedly doing it in that capacity. Of course he's doing it to show he can look presidential for campaign purposes, but McCain had just done so a month or so ago, so it's not like he really had a choice.

It seemed McCain was testing him to see if he'd really have the balls to go, which seems to have really backfired. You can go on and on about somebody's inexperience, and some of it might be true, but if that person looks good on the news next to other world leaders, that's what people will remember. Obama has pretty massive charisma, probably the most of any candidate since the Kennedys were running, definitely at least since Reagan.
