i've been there a lot as a kid. my mother took us to the general rehearsal: same as the real thing but a lot cheaper (you should inform if those are open at your local opera, sometimes they have arrangements for students and such)

it's the same with all classical music. i can appreciate it and it's been around all my life (both my parents are or were involved in classical music: my mother is a musician and my dad used to organize concerts) but i don't know much about it.

oh yeah i've been in the opera choir for a year or two as a kid.
